Fujitsu Rolls out PHS/WLAN Dual Mode System for Enterprises

Fujitsu announced that it has developed a telecommunications system which enables mobile phones to use both PHS and WLAN, with the system automatically choosing the format in accordance with the type of call. PHS circuits would be used if there is a certain distance to the person one calls, while WLAN would be used to make calls to people in the vicinity. The system also carries conference call, e-mail, and instant message functionality. Fujitsu stated that the new system will be especially suited for professional environments, with the added benefit for companies that the system will ensure lower mobile phone costs for companies. Fujitsu has set a price of 2.2 million Yen for a system linking 100 mobile phones.
